ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF LINCOLN MEDICAL SOCIETY
The University of Lincoln Medical Society was established in 2020 by medical students belonging to Lincoln Medical School's very first cohort of students. We are very proud of what we have to offer and are very excited about the future of MedSoc. Lincoln MedSoc is the primary society for medical students studying at the University of Lincoln, however, we are open to any student, whether you are looking to study post-graduate medicine or are simply interested in the medical sciences, we have something for everyone.
Lincoln Medical School students have dual student union citizenship as, we are Nottingham medical students studying on the Lincoln University campus. This means we have access to some of Nottingham’s resources, including their MedSoc. Whilst it is great to have this link in Lincoln Medical School’s early years, geographical restrictions mean we would not get the same Nottingham student experience if we relied on this alone. We therefore wanted to replicate some aspects of these benefits here in Lincoln and create some new traditions of our own to give our students a fantastic Lincoln Medical School experience. This is our main aim as a committee this year.
We also have new societies aimed at medical students that have been newly created for 2020/21, including Anatomy Society, GP Soc, and Widening Access to Medicine (WAMs), with plans for many more! We also will be maintaining a link with Nottingham MedSoc, which will allow us to have access to some of their offerings, including their SCRUBS surgical society, which offers brilliant educational resources and exam practice. We are uncertain what restrictions will be in place in the next academic year, but we anticipate a different way of life. We will therefore be adapting as a MedSoc to accommodate this and still offer the support to our members during their time at Medical School. We aim to build a close medic community at Lincoln Medical School and establish memories and traditions that will last forever!

OUR LOGO AND MOTTO
We are proud to introduce our logo! Here is a little bit of information behind the meaning and inspiration.
The Swan: the fauna of Lincolnshire is attached to the Rod of Asclepius, the ancient Greek symbol for the God of healing and medicine. This combines the old with the new - medicine and Lincoln; it symbolises us: Lincoln Medical Students. Our University Colours: Blue, White and Gold which are featured in the University of Lincoln coat of arms. Our Motto: 'Sanare est Servare' meaning 'To Heal is to Serve', stands as a reminder that as Doctors, we proudly serve the members of our society. Throughout Medical School, we will learn, practice and develop an incredibly varied skill set, which we hope to use to better the lives of those in the community. |
